Mindful parenting means becoming aware of your feelings, your child’s needs and feelings, and regulating your emotions. It involves paying conscious attention to feelings and what’s happening instead of getting overwhelmed by emotions. It does not mean that you will not get angry or upset. These negative emotions are normal but acting on them mindlessly is not.
In order to feel a sense of control over your emotions, you first have to be able to recognize and anticipate what types of situations are likely to trigger hot spots and emotional responses in you. The goal of this session is to provide you the tools to identify and appropriately respond to these triggers and help you thrive, enjoying greater productivity, calm, and clarity in all aspects of parenting and work.

Melissa Whippo is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) as well as a Certified Yoga Instructor.
Melissa has provided therapy for individuals, couples and families for over 15 years. For over a decade, she has worked at UCSF Medical Center. She facilitated grief support groups for parents whose children died. Melissa currently provides individual assessment and treatment for patients at any stage in their fertility process, pregnancy and the postpartum setting.
